100% Rain

You know those days don’t you? Bleak skies, dripping rain, bustling wind. The days when you’re so glad its raining because you know that rain causes your creative side to explode with creative ideas. No? Well I do. That’s the kind of day it is right now. We’re experiencing the tail end of Hurricane Sandy, which equals LOTS of wind, rain, and dreariness. And I’m sitting here *cough* procrastinating schoolwork *cough cough* and thinking about how much I haven’t blogged in such a long time. Some of you might ask what’s going on in my life. Well I’ll tell you. I’m in a difficult season in my life. I’ve been dealing with some non life-threatening medical issues which have made life as a junior in high school a little more difficult. If someone asks me how I’m doing with this I’ll answer, ‘With optimism’. And it’s true. But I have to admit sometimes its frustrating to deal with when all I really want to be focusing on is enjoying the second to last year of high school.

Two nights ago I watched the movie Soul Surfer and if you haven’t watched, you should. It’s about real life Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm to a shark while surfing. As I sat on my favorite floral chair I couldn’t help but think how blessed I am. I have God, just like Bethany Hamilton does, and as she says in the movie, ” All things are possible[with God]”. It also helped put my issue into perspective which is so important, as mentioned in the movie. That’s one of the many lessons I’ve learned on this medical-based journey. And I thought that I’d write down a few other lessons I’ve learned both for my own benefit and for yours.

Lessons Learned:

1. God’s the potter and I’m the clay.1. He’s the one in control, not me. 2. He made me beautiful and I have no right to critique His work of art.

2. Perspective is key. 1. No matter what you’re going through, someone else will always be worse off. 2. It’s hard to see clearly the plans that God has for you unless you back up and try to see things through a Jesus lens.

3. Never Underestimate the power of prayer. I’ve had so much prayer throughout this time and it’s been amazing. During times where I have felt discouraged or scared I will remember that people are interceding for me, and it brings peace. One particular example is when I was in the MRI and I was scared because I’ve never done anything like that before, and I thought of my good friend Maddy praying for me and it gave me peace and encouraged me to start praying to God.

4. An MRI is a good place to have time with the Lord.   Even though its loud, its a great way to have uninterupted time to meditate on who God is and to pray.

5.  Getting blood taken doesn’t hurt too much. Even if you think it’s going to hurt tremendously it’s quick and if done properly shouldn’t hurt to0 bad.

6. Humor Is Terrific Medicine. Humor is an essential tool for making life’s difficulties more bearable.

7. Your Testimony Can Impact Others. Even though I’m going through this I can still help others who are struggling. This goes along with Perspective, once you gain perspective, you can in turn help others do the same.

8. Even when there’s 100% Chance of Rain Be Optimistic. Optimism can chance a person’s life. Optimism not only helps me but it helps the people around me also.

I am so appreciative of people like my parents who have walked with me through this stage in my life, my brother who brings humor to my life,  my Mimi who has been praying and encouraging me,  my Christian friends who take the time to listen and pray, and everyone else who have prayed. God is continuing to sustain me through this period of life and as long as He is glorified I am content with whatever He brings my way.
